Affiliate marketing can be tough, especially when you are all alone and competing with hundreds maybe thousands of affiliates all trying to make some money and build up their own residual income. The trick is to be consistent and follow a few simple rules.



To build a residual income you need a plan, a step by step process to succeed. Following these simple but effective tips will give you the edge over your competition and let you thrive in the affiliate marketing business.



Every affiliate marketer wants to earn the big dollars, the way to do this is to start building up your residual income. This can sometimes be difficult, however with patience and hardwork you can find the right residual income opportunity that will allow you to slowly build your residual income.



There are three major tactics the affiliate marketer should employ to stay ahead of the competition.



What are these three simple tactics?



1. Stay focused, promoting several different products or programs is fine but you must have each product or program hosted with a unique web page. Do not put all your products and programs on the one web site. You need to focus and see what is working for each one.



Two must haves on any site are product reviews and testimonials, honest reviews can help build up your trustworthiness in the customers eyes so make sure it is an honest review. One way I find to do that is to try the product or service yourself. This allows you to write an honest review and you can be your own best testimonial. Communicate with customers and ask for testimonials most happy customers are more than willing to help.



You can also write articles highlighting the uses of the product and include them on your website as an additional page. Make these pages attractive, compelling and include calls to act on the information. Each headline should attract the readers to try and read more, even contact you. Highlight your special points. This will help your readers to learn what the page is about and will want to find out more.



2. Research has proven that it can take up to seven contacts with a prospect before you can close a sale. This means that you need to help the prospect along with various call to action methods enticing the prospect to give you their details so you can follow up the sale at a later date. This may include offering a time limited discount or a free information report on a related subject that the prospect can only access by giving you their name and email address. Setting up an email series through an autoresponder you can then send out a set of emails that expand on the use, benefits or tips for using your product or service that will directly benefit the customer.



Two things happen when a prospect comes onto your web page, either they will purchase your program or product or leave never to be seen again. By making a informative email series designed to entice the prospect back to your website you can have another chance to close the sale. Using an autoresponder for your emails you can set up messages to be delivered over a period of days or weeks. Again the emails should include call to action methods and create a sense of urgency in the prospect.



When writing your email series think about how your product or program will improve your prospects life. How much easier or simpler things would be If they owned your product or program. Include call to action motivators to let them know what they will be missing out on if they dont have your product or program. Use testimonials or stories of happy users and how it helped their lives.



3. After setting up your sales site you need to identify who your market is, once you have done that you can write informative articles giving helpful hints and tips about the use of your product or program. Include a clear call to action for the reader to go from your article to your sales site. Articles can be submitted to article directories or blogs related to your product or program. Finding Ezine owners who have a subscriber base with similar needs to your target market and ask if they will publish your article or offer the Ezine owner a percentage of a sale to offer your product or service to their subscriber base.



Try to write a minimum of two articles per week, with at least three to six hundred words in length. By continuously writing and maintaining these articles you can generate as many as one hundred targeted readers to your site in a day.



Always keep the momentum going to your website. If it takes one hundred visitors to make one sale and you need to make ten sales then you need to write more articles until you can get one thousand targeted visitors coming to your website each day.



There are many ways to advertise your product or service. The above tactics are very simple to do they just require a little time and effort. The key is to be consistent in whatever you do. Building up residual income will not happen overnight just take it one step at a time and follow the above methods and it will happen.



Once you master the above methods you can use them in several affiliate marketing programs. Being consistent with your methods and honest in your dealings with your prospects will see you come out head and shoulders above your competition.
